NSFAS application open date (Information)

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will open its 2024 funding applications process on 21 November 2023, with the closing date scheduled for the 31st of January 2024. I urge all eligible students who aim to pursue higher education and training in our public universities and colleges to apply within the specified time frame. 

NSFAS is in discussions with the Department of Basic Education to enhance application validation processes, including the verification of parental relationships. These improvements will streamline funding decisions. SASSA beneficiaries will receive immediate funding decisions, and no additional supporting documents will be required except for the learners with disabilities. All rejected applicants will have the opportunity to appeal.

For the 2024 application period, NSFAS will introduce new features, including the NSFAS mobile application, initially available for iPhone operating systems (IOs) and Android devices, with HUAWEI devices to follow. This app will also include biometric capabilities to be rolled out later in the year. Students will also be able to track their application statuses and funding updates through WhatsApp at 078 519 8006 or via USSD at *120*67327#.
